Butterfly Trail – 2014/4/5

It was bright and sunny – but surprisingly chilly on the Butterfly Trail – even a patch of snow hiding on the side of a hill under Mount Bigelow!

The trail looks like winter but is starting to have hints of the riotous green that will appear later in the year – small flower and green buds – water flowing down Novio Falls –

Dry Conditions, Snow Likely, Wildflower Season

Mt. Lemmon driest in 30 years – notes dry conditions, lack of snow and two fires already this season along the highway. Afternoon weather update – February 28th, 2014 – Snow above 7000′ possible! Wildflower season: Blooms may be busts – While there are some great wildflowers on the trail right now this article predicts that the massive ‘carpets’ of wildflowers that can often be seen will not happen this year due to conditions – Catalina State Park is mentioned for Blue Lupines.

Mint Spring and Aspen Trails – 2013/12/29

Snow near the start of the Mint Spring Trail. December 2013.

Mint Spring was a joy with snow on the trail – continued up to the top of the mountain via the Aspen Trail – past the running ski lift – the Summit Parking covered in snow – the top emptier than usual – surprised to see the Turkeys, assumed they would be lower.
