Finger Rock Trail Rescue

From the SARA Facebook Page: Southern Arizona Rescue Association was called to assist Pima County Sheriff’s Department SAR deputies locate a missing hiker in Finger Rock Canyon. The hiker had lost the trail and was “cliffed out” above a waterfall in the canyon bottom. SARA reached the hiker within an hour of arriving at the trail head. The hiker was doing well, but certainly appreciated the red licorice and the escort out of the canyon. Great job, everyone!

Dehydrated Hiker Rescued

Pima County Sheriff on 3/16 – “A severely dehydrated male hiker (30 years old) had to be airlifted out of the Catalina Mountains today. With the help of the Customs Air & Marine Blackhawk helicopter, he was flown to the SARA House near Sabino Canyon. Please remember to properly hydrate prior to going on a hike and to take plenty of fluids with you!”

Hikers Lost in the Snow Call Require Rescue

Snow disguises trail, hikers require rescue – from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department: …a search deputies with the Sheriff’s Search & Rescue Unit conducted last night near Mount Kimball. Three hikers lost the trail due to the snow and called 9-1-1. DPS Air Rescue Tucson supported the mission with their helicopter and located the hikers. They dropped off one of their medics who reached the lost hikers on foot. They were able to hike back to the landing zone under their own power and were flown out. No medical assistance was needed.

Bear Canyon Rescue – High Water

Bear Canyon, Arizona Hikers Rescued Near Tucson – hikers rescued from Bear Canyon after rain caused high water – there were a number of articles about this, the story made it to the national news. Great video of the Seven Falls area from this time period. After the event an additional story made the news about a family who refused the rescuers help with some questions about were the children endangered and a mention that they did not know the rescue would be free Hiker who refused rescue at Bear Canyon speaks out (note that while the the YouTube video above is dramatic that other videos taken down canyon show water that is quite a bit less ‘aggressive’).
