Prison Fire Update 7/3
InciWeb – Prison Fire – “Overnight July 2, a monsoonal wind event hit the Tucson area and the front range of the Catalina Mountains. The flare-up crossed fire lines for a gain of approximately 40 acres. A helicopter again is using bucket drops of water to cool the fire. The Prison Fire remains 50 % contained. It has grown by 40 acres to a total of 280 acres.”
I drove up the General Hitchcock Highway before sunrise today – while is was not as dark as when we observed the fire from the Bug Spring Traillhead on the night of 7/1 I could not see flames from that vantage point and only saw 5 or 6 small spots of orange from further up the Highway. Unlike 7/1 I did not smell any smoke in the area.
