Brush Corral Loop and Maverick Spring – 2014/7/22
At approximately 4.5 miles and 1500′ of elevation gain and loss from the Upper Green Mountain Trailhead the Green Mountain – Brush Corral – Brush Corral Shortcut loop is both beautiful (especially on the Brush Corral side of the loop – beautiful green ferns and trees right now) and quite a good workout – maybe if you are training for the Grand Canyon a loop at the top of the mountain to start the day, a nice break in Summerhaven and then this loop on the way down the mountain for a bit more vertical…
If you want just a bit longer hike the Maverick Spring Trail is an obvious out-and-back extension to this loop that adds approximately 1.6 miles, 500′ of elevation gain and loss and – this time of year – a beautifully green destination.
Phoneline At Night – 2014/6/28
We met a friend and co-worker who was doing a night time Bear Canyon Loop – there was a small breeze in the parking lot, but up on the Phoneline Trail in many of the twists and turns it was still – and quite warm…
Sycamore Reservoir, Seasonal Gate Closure – 2014/6/25
Enjoyed a beautiful night for a run on the Sycamore Reservoir Trail last night – the highlight may have been the beautiful rattlesnake coiled on the trail, what an amazing sight!
If you have not been to the Gordon Hirabayashi Recreation Site recently note that the gates to the lower parking are have been closed – the upper parking area is open and there is no closure of trails or of foot/bike/horse travel on road thru the campground – you can still enjoy hiking in the area!
Sunset and Marshall Gulch Trails – 2014/6/23
In March of this year I visited the Sunset Trail during a beautiful winter storm – today it was all sun with hardly a cloud in the sky! The Sunset Trailhead was busier than I expected – it was great to see so many people on the trail. I enjoyed the trees, the views, the water in Marshall Gulch and all of the green!
