The lead article in the February 1948 The Desert Magazine is 'Operation Underground!' by John Priser - an article on Peppersauce Cave in the Santa Catalina Mountains. There are several stunning pictures from inside the cave that would (mostly) fit well into a modern article on the cave - but what is somewhat surprising is finding directions to and a picture of the entrance along with a map of the cave, these days it is basically unthinkable to publish that information for mass distribution for a cave!

As told in the article Peppersauce Cave was found by Charles Yerington and Dick Throp while on a deer-hunting trip.

A PDF of the magazine is available from The Desert Magazine of the Southwest - February 1948.

A 2018 article on tucson.com features photos from the Arizona Daily Star's archives of Peppersauce Cave in 1948 - Photos: Exploring Peppersauce Cave in 1948 | Retro Tucson.

There is also a mention of Peppersauce in the November 1951 National Geographic Magazine featuring a picture of 'collectors' taking large crystals and from the cave.
